Two best friends have a crush on the same girl which causes their friendship to break down. They both tell each other they like a girl but they don’t know that it’s the same girl. They both buy her expensive gifts but little do they know she doesn’t like either of them and is just using them for the gifts. During school the two best friends are at their lockers; as their crush walks by and smiles at both of them, but they’re oblivious to where the other one is and thinks she is smiling at both of them. They arrange a date with the girl at the same place at the same time with the girl without knowing that they have both booked a date with her at the exactly the same time. When the day for the date comes they both see each other at the restaurant thinking that it is just an odd coincidence they happen to be at the same place at the same time for a date, the two friends confide in each other about who their date is and as they describe who she is they realise that they have been hustled by the same girl, and are angered to find out what has happened. The drinks they both ordered arrive and at the same time the girl walks in with a different guy. She walks straight past the two friends and doesn’t even acknowledge their existence. Angered by what they have just found out, they grab the drinks from their table and throw the drinks at the girl in spite of her actions. They both acknowledge they were stupid for falling for girl if it seemed too good to be true and the two later reconciled and were the best of friends once again. We chose this idea as it was the most conventional story and would be easy to match with all the codes and conventions of a ROMCOM such as having the main protagonists fall for someone but have to overcome obstacles to be with them, however the comedy factor will play into that fact that the protagonists cannot get what they want and that they will eventually be happy again, you could also have a voiceover in the opening sequence from one of the characters as if the film has happened in the past tense and the narration is in the future tense. The film will attract the target audience as it could relate to many people who have a best friend, also the comedy factor and romance factor could make it attractive to everyone within our target audience, the comedy factor would attract the males and the romance would attract the females.
